Kikumoto Allstars - ‘House Music’
Released: 25th May 2009
Gigolo Recordings (Distributed by: NEWS)
DJ Hell’s International Deejay Gigolo Imprint brings the debut album release from Australia´s Kikumoto Allstars aka DJ/Producer Cam Farrar: HOUSE MUSIC !
Cam Farrar: “The inspiration for this album came from the original Chicago (Acid) House Music from the mid 1980’s of Marshall Jefferson, Larry Heard and Adonis. The tracks from this era have an innocence and purity that I felt was somewhat lost in modern electronic music. I wanted to capture all I loved about this music but put it in context with where we are today.” Kikumoto Allstars and International Deejay Gigolo Record would like you to know that all “the tracks on this album were produced using the analogue synth’s and drum machines that defined the original house music - Roland TR-909, TR-808, TR-707, SH-101, JX-8P, Juno range, and the TB-303 - paying homage to the Roland Corporation’s Tadao Kikumoto, the brains behind these now legendary machines.”
This is an album wit NO boring intro track. So already with the first track, EVERYBODY, the party can begin: modern acid house ‘in your face’ with a heavy bass and a dark penetrating male vocal, very pumpy, jacking! The party goes one with I´LL MAKE YOU JACK (with a bassline and drum machine, reminiscent of the old acid house trax of 1986-1987) and CAN'T STOP THE HOUSE (which features lyrics from the 1987 Thompson & Lenoir track ‘Can’t Stop the House’). Track 4 BENDING TIME is my personal highlight on this album. Besides his typical acid sound, Cam Farrar uses here also more contemporary mnml influences resulting in a fantastic track which reminds me of the quality productions from Josh Wink!
Then their is a clearly more softer & melodic part on the album (track 5 till 9). Mainly non vocal tracks, except WAREHOUSE DAYS wich contains a sexy melancholic female vocal about the dance floor and the environments that gave birth to this genre of House Music. And so we arrive at final part to the album. First with JACK THE HOUSE, again true jacking acid house. Then track 11 SHED which is pure dark dance floor material in true Gigolo style: dark but banging electro! Last track of the album is the funky HOUSE MUSIC with a repetitive vocal hook singing, as it says on the box, “H-H-H-H, H-H H-House Music”!
Conclusion: a must have CD for the acid house fans, but also a very nice CD for people who have no specific connection with acid house!
